"I have no choice but to die... NO! I have jumped for a tree, jumped for a raven, jumped for a cougar. I shall jump for the sun!"
~Faolan in Lone Wolf, part 3
The MacDuncan clan is a noble clan that is always true and loyal.
They aren't at all evil, however, there are exceptions. The MacDuncan
clan stands strong, and other clans are jealous of their strong, stealthy minds and bodies.
In the series,
it is revealed that they were the first pack to form which all other
packs descended from. They were known as the "Clan of Clans".
The leader was Duncan MacDuncan, and being the oldest chieftain, died of old age. After this, his son, Liam MacDuncan, becomes the new leader.
As seen in the maps of the Wolves of the Beyond books,
the MacDuncan clan is located in the northeastern Beyond. They reach
down to the MacDuff territory. They are closest clan to the Ring of
Sacred Volcanoes and the Black Glass Desert. The clan is northeast to
the MacAngus clan, the MacDuff clan, the MacDonegal clan, and the MacNab clan. The clan is southwest to the MacNamara clan, southeast to the MacHeath clan, and northwest to the Ring of Sacred Volcanoes.
There are five packs in the MacDuncan clan: The Carreg Gaer, the
Pack of the Eastern Scree, the River Pack, the Pack of the Blue Rock,
and the Pack of the Fire Grass.
These packs seemed to be named for thier landscape, for example
the Pack of the Blue Rock has several blue rocks, the Pack of the Fire
Grass has grass that would catch on fire when lightning (ceilidh fyre) hits it.
pack eating after a byrrgis and notices a small, taill-less, yellow, gnaw wolf, waiting for his turn to eat. He is nipped at and bitten for trying to sneak the meat. Later, after Faolan jumps the wall of fire, he speaks to Duncan MacDuncan who lets him join the clan and puts him in the Pack of the Eastern Scree.
After the Fengo, Finbar, orders Faolan and Edme to check on the MacDuncans and the disappearing chieftain, Liam MacDuncan, they travel there. They find that the famine was spread utter chaos into the wolves.
The MacDonegal clan is one of the many clans of the Beyond.
The MacDonegal clan is one of the wolf clans of the Beyond. They are the closet clan to the Outermost.
The MacDonegal clan is located very near towards the center of the
Beyond. They are also close to other locations, such as the Outermost,
Frost Forest, and the Cave Before Time.
This clan is northwest to the MacAngus clan, the MacDuff clan, and the MacNab clan. The clan is southwest to the MacHeath clan, and west to the MacNamara clan and the MacDuncan clan.
The MacAngus clan was one of the many wolf clans of the Beyond. They were the first clan to spot Faolan's splayed pawprint, and believed he had the foaming-mouth disease.
The MacAngus clan was located in the very center of the Beyond. The clan's territory lies near the river that splits the Beyond in half, and are the closet clan to the slough and the Sark's camp, as well as the MacNabs.
They were next to the Crooked Back Ridge and Ring of Sacred Volcanoes.
They are not very well known; only mentioned a few times in the books.
What is known is their chieftain, two pack members, and their location.
It is a very small clan, with only two packs.
The only known pack of the MacNab clan is the Carreg Gaer. One is known, but is not named. The Sark said there was only two packs in the entire clan, so it was exceedingly small.
The Sark of the Slough remembers back to when she was a pup in the MacNab clan. She tells about her mother, Amber MacNab, and other wolves in it. The Sark mentions that the clan is very small, with only two small packs.
The MacNamara clan was a wolf clan, mainly of she-wolves, as more
than half of members are female wolves. This clan is one of the best
and most highly respected clans, along with the MacNabs and the MacDuncans.
Many abused she-wolves from the MacHeath clan come here to escape the torture and abuse they recieved.
The MacNamara clan was founded by Namara MacNamara,
formerly Hordwead MacHeath. A leader of the clan, a she-wolf herself,
is called the Namara. She named it this because "Namara" means "Maker of
Strong Spirits". The last ever Namara was a she-wolf named Galana.
The MacNamara clan was founded by an abused MacHeath she-wolf, Hordweard. After killing her old mate, Dunleavy MacHeath, she founded the MacNamara clan and renamed herself Namara, Old Wolf for "maker of strong spirits".
Abused female wolves of the MacHeath clan find banuil caint bones, or "she-wolf talk", carved by the first Namara herself. Katria has read these bones, which only those tortured she-wolves can read and understand.
The MacNamara clan is located in the far north-eastern Beyond. They are very close to Broken Talon Point
and this clan is mostly a pennisula; mainly surrounded by water, Sea of
Vastness, Sea of Hoolemere, and Bitter Sea. They are east to the MacHeath clan and northeast of the MacDuncan clan, the MacDuff clan, the MacNab clan, the MacDonegal clan, and the MacAngus clan.
Female wolves escaping the MacHeath clan will have to swim the Sea of Vastness or cross into MacDuncan territory in order to reach the MacNamara territory.
Faolan is believed to have observed the MacNamara clan after Gwynneth tells him, "You must go to the wolves". He notices that there are many females in the clan.
Katria and Airmead both escape to the MacNamara clan while Dunbar was cubnaping Toby. The she-wolves of the MacNamara clan chase the MacHeaths into the Outermost after the MacHeaths are denounced as crait for tearing out Edme's eye when she was a pup.
The entire MacNamara clan (all execpt Airmead and Katria) are wiped out from the earthquake, from the violet shakes, famine and the breaking penninulsa.
The MacHeath clan was once one of the many wolf clans in the Beyond.
They were known for their viciousness and brutalily to members of the
clan, usually she-wolves. They would usually maim pups to get into the
Watch and take over. Edme, a maimed wolf, comes from this clan.
Many she-wolves tried to escape to the MacNamara clan, but if the MacHeaths found out, they would send a byrrgis to kill them.
Their leader was Dunbar MacHeath in Watch Wolf, yet was killed by Edme. After this, the whole clan was banished from the Beyond and chased into the Outermost by the MacNamara clan.
The MacHeath clan was known for maiming pups, trying to get into the Sacred Watch. Edme, a one-eyed she-wolf, was maimed by their chieftain, Dunbar MacHeath. The reason the MacHeath wolves do so is because of
their
genetics; they cannot produce physically deformed pups. It is mentioned
in Watch Wolf that while their minds may be twisted and warped, they
are incapable of producing malcadhs, therefore they are also incapable of getting representation at the Watch of the Ring of Sacred Volcanos. It is as if their spirits are deformed rather than their bodies.
Edme and Cody are the only known maimed pups by this clan, but there are very likely others.
When a pup is disobident or rebelious, they are theatened by their parents or the cheiftain with being thrown into the Pit. The Pit is a deep stone canyon, with a rabid wolf living in it called Old Cags. Very few pups die in the Pit,
from starvation or the disease, and if they do it is normally from
suicide. Those who survive return to the clan "moonblinked." Cags
needs the pup's name to moonblink the pup, and as soon as he has their
name, he will say it over and over again, causing it to bounce and echo
off the canyon walls and make the pup confused and delerious. When it
returns, its eyes are all cloudy and stoney and they obey everything. It
is mentioned that most pups who return from the Pit are quiet and
sickly, and often die young.
The MacHeath clan was located way up north in the middle of the Beyond. East to the clan is a place known as "The Pit". The MacHeath clan was one of the closest clans to the Crooked Back Ridge.
The only known packs in the MacHeath Clan are the Carreg Gaer and the
West Pack. However, it is possible that there were some packs named for
their location, much like the West Pack. It is very possible that there
was an East Pack, a North Pack, and possibly a South Pack.
In Lone Wolf, Faolan
is observing wolf packs and clans. He spies on a pack from the MacHeath
clan. He doesn't want join, due to the brutal cruelity recieved to gnaw wolves and females. To Faolan, they are the closest wolves
Dunbar MacHeath was the last chieftain of the MacHeath clan.
In Watch Wolf, the MacHeath clan is responsible for the war that could have started. Dunbar is killed by Edme and the Fengo, Finbar, then annouces that for now on, the MacHeath will be known as Outclanners. The she-wolves of the MacNamara clan then chase them to the Outermost.
